Our intern Karen has been working hard and playing hard during her travels here in the city. She has made sure to take in all that NYC has to offer before returning to Geneva, Switzerland. She gave us the low-down on her two favorite spots around they city:

The Williamsburg Flea Market is my absolute favorite place to go. I have been heading to Brooklyn almost every Sunday, not necessarily to shop, but just for the unique atmosphere and the amazing view of Manhattan across the water. Apart from the vintage clothes and bags, you can find a lot of things there, from hand-made pillow covers to amazing photographs to lovely furniture.

The food is great too! You can find several stands of delicious food from different regions, often cooked right in front of you. There are things like cupcakes, bread, or doughnuts or even freshly squeezed lemonade. You can grab food after you’ve shopped and eat in the park next to the Flea, in front of the water while taking in the beautiful view of the city.

But the best thing to see it that neighborhood is definitely the Artists & Flea indoor market, which is just a couple blocks before the flea market. Aside from the vintage clothes and accessories, you can find amazing new artists selling their items. There are a lot of jewelry designers. My big find was Marina Pecoraro’s amazing jewelry. She designs very delicate and divine pieces. This is the only place you can see her jewelry in person at the moment.

Another thing I love in New York city is the Apollo Theater located uptown in Harlem. I just discovered this place recently! Every Wednesday, the theater holds Amateur Night which is a competition with several aspiring artists – mainly singers – performing on stage. The crowd either cheers them on or will boo them off, which will eliminate the contestant. At the end, the audience votes for their favorite artist and whoever has the most votes wins! The atmosphere is very entertaining.

Thanks for sharing with us Karen and thank you for all your help. We will miss you, but can’t wait to head to your favorite places!
