We can’t believe Awards Season has come to an end – it seems like it only just began! But the end-all and be-all Academy Awards were this weekend and the final statues have all found their homes.
Let’s start with the winners, shall we? Tying for most Oscar wins this season, at five each, was Hugo and The Artist – two very interesting choices as Hugo is a children’s film and The Artist is a silent black & white feature!
Up against films like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 11 and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Hugo took home Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Visual Effects.
While Hugo might have racked up an equal number of awards, The Artist took home some of the most impressive statues: Best Picture, and Jean Dujardin for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Mr. Dujardin beat out the likes of Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney in The Descendants and Brad Pitt in Moneyball! The other awards the film took home included Best Costume Design, Best Directing, and Best Original Score. Brava!
Aside from these scene stealers, here are our favorite moments from The Oscars:
- The most unsurprising surprise on the red carpet was not a best or worst dress – but in fact it was Sacha Baron Cohen’s (or rather The Dictator’s) attack on Ryan Seacrest. Seeing this ridiculousness take place was by far the most interesting part of the evening and we’re amazed at what a good sport Ryan was after SBC dumped his urn of powder all over his tux.
- Our absolute favorite scene of the night was Emma Stone! That girl has unbelievable charm – we can’t help but want to be her best friend! She came out on stage with Ben Stiller (who we love as well!) and she starts gushing over how this her first time presenting – and she continues to interrupt Ben with bright ideas of how they can liven up the awards. We have to say that if any other actress had to deliver this sketch, they would not have been able to pull it off like Emma! Watch here!
- No one makes an entrance like Angelina Jolie – that’s just a fact – and she was she working both the red carpet and the stage at the Oscars. She wore a gorgeous velvet Atelier Versace grown with a striking slit and boy did she make use of that slit every chance she got – and the world took notice. You can now follow Angie’s Right Leg on Twitter. But our favorite imitation of the leg was not in tweets, but in actions when co-writer Jim Rash of The Descendants struck his own leggy pose.
- While we were a little surprised Octavia Spencer didn’t take home the gold for Best Actress inThe Help, we do adore all things Meryl Streep! We must admit, we haven’t seen The Iron Lady so what made us so excited for her win was the way Colin Firth (swoon!) introduced her as a nominee, “Meryl Streep. Mamma Mia. We were in Greece, I was gay, I probably fathered her daughter… you are unreasonably good. Whatever role you play you raise the bar, making it a little more difficult for the rest of us.”
Finally, we’d like to praise our top three favorite looks on the red carpet:
So with that, we’d like to thank the Academy for wrapping up awards season so perfectly!
