Another internship season is wrapping up, which, sadly, means we have to say goodbye to our awesome intern. Brittany gives us a look into her experience here at BR|LGC and what’s next for her:
BR|LGC: What surprised you about interning at BR|LGC?
What has surprised me is that B. Robinson is like a family. Everyone that works here is highly personable and welcoming. On my first day, my supervisor introduced me to everyone at the company, which was a great start! I was even more surprised that they featured their interns in a series called “Meet our Interns” on
their blog. It is a great to see a company that truly shows interest in every aspect of their business, even down to the interns. It made me feel like I was part of the great family here.
BR|LGC: Was there anything that you learned that you found particularly interesting?
I really found learning about the anatomy of a frame and all the material that it includes very interesting. I didn’t know too much about eyewear until interning here, but there is so much to learn about it. I also really enjoyed learning about the quality and production site for acetate and seeing the inspiration for design and detailing was exciting.
BR|LGC: What was your favorite project during your internship?
My favorite project during my internship was when I created a blog post for summer trends based on our brands. It was fun to choose a frame and then build a look around it. Using Polyvore, which by the way is such a fun and useful site, I created a look for each style. I also really enjoyed organizing the many samples that are in the office. It was like I had the first look at all the great product! We continually received samples and it was fascinating to see the differences in the frames depending on the factory it came from.
BR|LGC:What are your plans for the summer?
I will be graduating in May! I’m excited about this next stage in my life and am looking forward to starting my career in the fashion industry. I love that the fashion industry has so many facets to get involved in. I feel that a career in fashion in the end becomes a journey. I am definitely passionate about both sales and product development. I enjoy interacting with people as well as the creative side of product development, so I hope to work in either area.
BR|LGC: Any reflections on your time at BR|LGC?
I’ve learned a lot from the Product Development team, seeing their day-to-day tasks. Product development is no easy job – there is always an issue to be resolved. Timing is everything!
I respect and admire everyone at B. Robinson. All the employees are friendly and, again, very personable. B. Robinson is a company that works together to do everything. I got to see this by working with the Marketing department once a week! Multiple departments come together and, in the end, great product is made and sold. I have learned a lot from everyone. Joyce, the head of the Product Development team, made sure I had all the knowledge I need and the ladies of the Customer Service and Marketing teams assisted me whenever I needed it. I am very grateful to be given such an amazing opportunity and am sad my internship is coming to a close. I am, however, excited to begin the new chapter in my life following graduation!

We are so excited to have our new intern on-board! Meet Brittany – she is working with the Product Development and Marketing departments during her time with us:
BR|LGC: Where are you from?
Brittany: I am from Farmingville, Long Island (Suffolk County)
BR|LGC: Where do you go to college? What is your major?
B: I go to Marist College and my major is Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Business.
BR|LGC: What department are you working in while interning here at B. Robinson?
B: I am working with both the Product Development team and the PR/Marketing team while interning here at B. Robinson.
BR|LGC: How would you describe your personal style?
B: I would describe my personal style as simple and chic. I like to be trendy, but don’t ever wear anything to over the top. I like to add accessories to my outfits to make it can stand out. My favorites are shoes, of course, as well as scarves and sunglasses.
BR|LGC: What is one item you own that has enormous value to you but none to anyone else?
B: I would have to say is a glittery bracelet that I wear every day. It’s purple and I won at an arcade but it is very special to me.
BR|LGC: Who is your style icon?
B: My style icon is Coco Chanel. Her style is timeless and I love that about her. My favorite quote from her is “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
BR|LGC: What is your favorite winter activity on your days off?
B: Watching a movie with a cup of hot chocolate!
BR|LGC: What did your first pair of sun glasses look like?
B: My first pair of sunglasses were huge over-sized black ones. The ones that are probably too big for my face, but make a statement.
BR|LGC: What is your current favorite song?
B: Definitely ‘I Knew You Were Trouble‘ by Taylor Swift.
BR|LGC: What is your favorite winter dessert?
B: Homemade holiday cookies.
BR|LGC: Where do you find outfit inspiration?
B: I find outfit inspiration mostly by what is showcased in window displays in stores. I also like to read fashion magazines and get ideas from them.
BR|LGC: Name one “now or never” moment in your life.
B: A “now or never” moment in my life was definitely my choice to study abroad in Florence, Italy for my entire freshman year of college. I knew that the opportunity to go abroad at such a young age would only come once in a lifetime. It was an experience of a lifetime – I would go back in a heartbeat!
BR|LGC: What is your dream job?
B: My dream job would be designing and creating fashion – product development is on the top of my list. I love everything about it from the colors to materials. I think creating a product is a journey that involves passion about what you are creating.
BR|LGC: What do you hope to learn and accomplish by interning at B. Robinson?
B: I hope to learn and accomplish a great deal while interning here at B. Robinson. I want my time here to be meaningful and I plan to make every day count! I want to learn about the product development process and gain a true understanding on what it takes to be a product developer. I hope to gain insight about the factories and how material is chosen as well.
I also want to learn about how the product is portrayed through publications. Marketing a product and creating “buzz” takes a lot of time and effort. The product must be in the right publication at the right time. It has to also be able to relate to the customer. Overall, I want my total experience here to be an amazing one and I have no doubts that it will be.

The BR | LGC Product Development team recently attended a trend presentation for the 2013-2014 Fall and Winter seasons at the Swarovski office! This presentation gave the team an opportunity to learn about four trend themes for the upcoming seasons, and how these themes will be translated into crystals.
The first theme, classic, which is reflected on tradition and charm, takes us back in time. This trend appeals to the curiosity and desire of individuals who are interested in the past and the exploration of the past through local and sustainable ingredients. This theme will be represented with natural materials combined with crystals, adding plenty of glamour to a classic and folkloric style. The deep greens and earthy browns of the forest are paired with genuine tones in dark shades of red and blue to create a harmonic plethora of rich hues for these crystals.
The romantic theme, which is a reflection on darkness, demonstrates the uncertainty in everyday life, particularly in the new generation. This dark and dramatic trend rejects all things happy and healthy, and instead embraces a sense of longing and lost. This “New Romantic” style is defined by opulent and eccentric symbols of punk combined with new-age technology to create an ageless appeal. There will be a wide variety of scales and rich colors in order to bring together the past and present with this trend.
The progressive theme is almost the exact opposite to that of the romantic theme. Reflecting on progress, inspiration for this theme is drawn from active lifestyles and sport-inspired street wear to represent the fast paced lifestyle of the present day. This theme exudes practicality while maintaining a luxurious appeal to color and style. Futuristic cuts and shapes combined with edgy, metallic colors make for a great representation of how the world around us is quickly evolving.
Lastly, the glamour theme showcases a more delicate and charming lifestyle. This whimsical Kate Middleton-inspired trend aims to combine the glamorous life with sweet, enchanting beauty to create a fairytale dream. Fit for a modern day princess, this trend will use crystals and crystal pearls excessively, offering a sense of wealth and sophistication. The colors are primarily soft pastels and ivories in classic shapes and styles will remain true to the lady-like theme.
